Environment Improvement & Trash Removal

Author: Stephanie L. Phifer

Last weekend the Environment Improvement & Trash Removal (EITR) Crew got together to do our small part to make the world a better place. Fueled by coffee, chicken minis, munchkins, and delicious cookies, we worked with the amazing Carroll County Equestrian Councils, some wonderful friends and family, Girl Scouts, Scouts BSA Troop, and Cub Scout Pack to clean up Piney Run Park in Sykesville, MD. We are very grateful for these fabulous people!

So what did we do?!

Trash Pickup

The majority of the group fanned out and canvassed the park for trash to pick up. We traversed several trails and while we were impressed at how little trash we found we managed to fill a couple of trash bags. Carroll County Recreation & Parks graciously provided a truck to take the trash to the dump. Go team!

Trail Work

Two of the EITR volunteers used gas powered hedge trimmers, and made an enormous impact on the trails to the Northwest of the parking lot that typically become overgrown and unpassable with thorn bushes, etc. 20 points if you can find both volunteers in the picture below!

We spent a lot of time working together so obviously we needed some trashy evidence.

We are super proud to be involved in helping our community one piece of trash at a time. Have a Happy Earth day and if you have the opportunity take a minute to clean up the environment and soak in the sun.
